As some of you have noticed, I have missed a few days the past two weeks. Last week, I missed two days when I went to the pumpkin patch with Mallory on Tuesday and with Reece on Wednesday. We had lots of fun with the beautiful weather and the Tennessee Tornado at Honeysuckle Hill. Then, I missed part of the day to go to volleyball Thursday and Friday. GREAT JOB, LADY COUGARS! Then, this week Reece and Mallory ended up with a stomach bug which caused me to be out on Wednesday, which was NOT fun! Today, I went to TPAC with the 5th grade today where we saw several short stories performed, including "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Monkey's Paw," and "The Necklace." So, I sort of feel as if I've been out of the loop! The good (or bad--depending on how you look at it) news is that I'm finished with field trips! That means you all have to just put up with me!
It's your turn: Do you remember your favorite field trip as an elementary or middle school student? Tell me what it was and why you enjoyed it. I DON'T want high school trips! Reminisce about your childhood! To get extra credit, post your 4-5 GOOD sentence response no later than Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4:00 p.m. Yes, I will look at your actual writing, so don't just slap down anything! Enjoy the memories...
A tradition at my old school, St. Pius X, is for the kids to go on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. My favorite holiday is Halloween so going to the pumpkin patch every year when i was a child just made my day. My Maw-maw works at my old school so it was great having her there with me to pick out my pumpkin. In third grade we stopped going the the pumpkin patch and I was very upset. I wish i could go on a field trip to the pumpkin patch every year.
ReplyDeleteI took the best field trip ever when I was in fourth grade. Everyone in my grade went to Mammoth Cave. We all had good bonding time riding the buses there and back together. When we got there, we got to travel down into the cave. Our tour guide told us stories about the cave, and he tried to scare us at times. That was one the most memorable field trips I've ever taken because it was the first time I got to see the inside of a cave. I would love to go back sometime!
ReplyDeleteThe most memorable field trip I took was in third grade when I attended Saint Bernard Academy. SBA, being a Catholic school and all, had nuns as teachers, administration, etc. Well, in the third grade, we went to go see A Christmas Carol at TPAC. As all of the third graders were lining up to get on the bus, one of the nuns, Sister Nina, fainted. It was a madhouse for about thirty minutes. Nuns were praying, students were crying thinking she was dead, and parents were just standing in disbelief wondering what to do. Nevertheless, the field trip was still on, and and we made our was to TPAC. About half way through the play, things seemed to be going well. However, when Scrooge chose to use the Lord's name in vain multiple times, Sister Helen decided the play was unfit for third graders and we got up and left in the middle of the play. All this to say, my third grade field trip to TPAC was without a doubt the most memorable field trip I've ever taken.
ReplyDeleteEarly September of my second grade year, the Andrew Jackson Elementary class of 2012 visited the Nashville Zoo because we were learning about different animals and the different categories they're classified into. When we arrived, we piled off the bus and lined up in our assigned order. After we were all accounted for, Mrs. Floyd (my teacher at the time) guided us through the maze of monkeys, giraffes, and lions. To conclude the tour of the zoo, my teachers thought it would be a fantastic idea to have a picnic by the elephants... and their droppings... on a sweltering, ninety degree afternoon. Needless to say, most of my comrades opted out of eating lunch because of the enticing aroma that permeated the surrounding air. However, even though I was sweaty, starving, and spent at the end, I have to admit that the field trip my second grade class took to the zoo stands as my favorite elementary level field trip.
ReplyDeletewhen I was in third grade, my school arranged a field trip for the elementary students, we all got to go to a water park. That was my first field trip and my first time going to a place like that, I got so excited I could not sleep. I had a really fun time playing with my friends, we did all the stuffs, tried everything that we could. I did not want to go home at all. Even though I have a lot of chances to go to the water park, but I do not have the same feeling that I had eight years ago. I remember everything about that field trip, it was my first and best field trip ever.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was my trip i took to Atlantic city in 8th grade. When we got there,we went to olympic park and ran through the water fountains. We walked around, looked at some shops, ate ice cream, even went to a braves game! Now that might sound normal for anyone, but for me it was special. It was special because that was the first time i went to Atlantic, the first baseball game i saw,and much more. For me,that day will always be special to me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip by far was a week-long trip to the Tremont Institute in Great Smokey Mountains National Park that I took with my 7th grade class at Merrol Hyde. We spent a lovely week hiking through the mountains, learning about environmental preservation, and just plain having fun. All the while, we had one of the funniest inter-school competitions going on that I've ever witnessed. Because Tremont was all about reducing waste (and there were always two to three schools there at any given time) they kept an ongoing count of each group's leftover food mass. Basically, at the end of every meal, each school had a few students who acted like human garbage disposals, consuming as much of the leftover food as possible before the team leaders came around and weighed the scraps. As nasty as that sounds, it was hilarious to see in action, and it made my Tremont field trip great and granted me a rare opportunity to learn about the people in my grade and about myself.

As a young animal fanatic, I was absolutely thrilled when I found out that my third grade class was taking a field trip to Kentucky Down Under. I had been to the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere many times even at the early age of nine, so an Austrailian alternate proved to be much more exciting. I spent the entire day wandering through mazes of animal exibits featuring every sort of wacky animal from a kangaroo to a koala bear. It was a highlight of my childhood and fills me with warm memories even to this day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 5th grade at Coopertown Middle School, I remember taking a field trip over to tour the middle school. We were all so excited and nervous to be around the big kids. The day was spent touring the new school we'd be attending, eating lunch in the middle school cafeteria, and trying not to embarrass ourselves in front of the older 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. We all longed for the day when we'd be the oldest ones, not realizing that we'd start all over again in 9th grade.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the second grade, I lived in the Virgin Islands. We went to this place called VIERS on a field trip. It was so cool, we got to take a boat to another island and all of my classmates were super excited! We got to learn about the different see animals such as manatees and we got to see cool animals like sting rays. We also learned about conserving(I had no idea what that meant at the time) and recycling. I really enjoyed it because we got to see the different animals and we got to be out of school for the day!
ReplyDeletewhen i was in fourth grade, i lived in joelton. theres not much to do down here, and not much choices. theres a few resterants and a bank. my teachers decided to taked us on a feild trip to the bank since we couldnt walk far. i got to see what a banker does for a living. it was kinda neat and a cool exsperience. besides i got to skip school for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was in 7th grade. The 7th grade classes went on a spend the night field trip to Nature's Classroom. What I liked the most was the "Ghost Tour". We toured through the woods at night, a new experience for all I think. We learned there were nature activities at night in the woods that we did not know about! We had a camp fire and it was just a great time to spend with friends.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in kindergarden, we were having an Easter egg hunt at Macy Barnes' house. The day of the hunt, it rained extremely hard. Mrs Barnes allowed our class to hunt eggs inside her house. The coolest thing about that day was Macy's brother's room. He had a fireman's pole in his room. Of course all the boys loved sliding down the pole rather than hunting eggs. How many people have a fireman's pole in their house?

ReplyDeleteThe most memorable field trip I can recall was the fourth grade trip to The Hermitage. This was quite possibly the most anticipated field trip for every ten year old at Goodpasture, well everyone but me. Not only were we visiting President Andrew Jackson's home, we had to be a part of it. Each of us were given a costume (we look as though we'd just stepped out of the eighteen hundreds), assigned a partner and received lines to memorize months in advance. The little apprehensive me not only had to dress up and be stared at, but I had to speak! The overall experience of being watched by a bunch of photograph-taking, sunglasses-wearing tourists was humiliating. It was then that I declared my partner, Rhys, my hero as he agreed to do all the talking. Although the day seemed disastrous at the time, looking back it is probably my favorite trip we took.

My favorite field trip was when I was in the 8th grade and we went to Washington D.C. What I really enjoyed about that trip was you got to hang out with all your friends and you learned alot about the United States. My favorite part of the trip was when we went to the Lincoln Memorial. I learned alot on that trip and I will never forget it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was when i went to an active volcano in Nicaragua when i was in fifth grade. I had never done anything like that before so i felt very excited. Although i felt excited, i was also a little bit scared. I could see the lava in the volcano when i was at the top. There was a particular smell, i believe it was sulfur, and everyone could smell it. Something i found to be very interesting was that you could see that along the walls of the volcano there were small holes in which parakeets lived in. Gods creation is truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteI do not remember what grade it was but i remember going to honeysuckle hill to the pumpkin patch. It was my all time favorite because of all the fun activites they had planned for us to do when we got there! My favorite part was the mini corn maze they had (we were to small to go in the big one)because i rmember being beast at it and i was the fastest one through it. I went back to honeysuckle this halloween to the corn maze and I noticed that it hasn't changed much and it brought back alot of interesting memories.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in eigth grade, my class and I went to Washington, D.C. We visited all of the big monuments and historical sites in that area such as: the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. I had such a great time being with my friends and learning about the monuments and memorial's backgrounds. The best part of the trip was when we saw the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was so amazing seeing the guards being so exact with everything they did. I hope I get to do it again someday.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite field trips from elementary school was in kindergarten when our class had "B" day. This was a day dedicated to all activities starting with the letter "B". We went bowling at Madison Bowling Alley, ate lunch at Burger King, and had dessert at Baskin Robbins! Looking back, it doesn't sound very exciting but for a five year old this was the best day ever!! Even though this was a small and insignificant field trip, it is one I hope I never forget!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was when I was in fifth grade at Madison Campus Elementary, and we went to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. At this point in my life I was so obsessed with cars, and I still am, so ii was very excited about this trip. While there we learned about the history of the corvette and all its past model, and we even saw some concepts that to me I thought they were going to make. We also went to one of the factories close there and saw them being built, which was really amazing, but very dangerous, and to me that was my favorite field trip.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was the time that we went to Honeysuckle Hill's pumpkin patch. We had a great time bonding as a class as we made our way around the patch and corn maze. I remember it being so beautiful there, with all the trees in full fall colors and the pumpkins in prime season. I really enjoyed learning about how a pumpkin grows and the different stages it goes through. Looking back, this memory reminds me how masterful the Lord's creation truly is.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was when I was in elementary school. We went to the Nashville Zoo. We had a lot of fun seeing all the animals. My favorite animals were the panda bears. They loved eating bamboo.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite elementary field trip was when we went to a dairy farm in either first grade or kindergarten. This field trip was definitely the most memorale-just ask poor Kasey Akins! Towards the end of the field trip, we went into the milking room to watch the cows being milked. My mom got to come on this field trip, and she strongly advised me to stand in the back as soon as we entered the room. I didn't understand why she was so adamant about this! Then, one of the cow's tails started to twitch. Before any of us knew what was happening, several of our classmates were covered in cow poop! Kasey was so "messed upon" that some of the moms had to run out and buy her some clean clothes. Needless to say, I know I will never forget this field trip.

My favorite field trip by far was my fourth grade class trip to Mammoth Cave. It all started first thing in the morning when we got to school. We all loaded the huge charter busses and headed north for Kentucky. Once we had arrived, we met up with a tour guide and started our adventure. We weaved our way through the dark cave and learned about creatures, rock structures, and history. The entire day was an educational and adventurous experience that I'll never forget.
ReplyDeleteGood comments, guys!
ReplyDeletePaige, Mallory can hardly wait for the B field trip in a couple of weeks! Natalie, you--once again--made me laugh out loud! As someone who has worked in a dairy barn, I totally understand how that happened--not pretty! Jennifer, I would love to see that volcano! I'm impressed with some of the lessons and the writing style many of you have exhibited--keep it up!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite field trip was to Mammoth Cave in the fourth grade. We had a picnic lunch and played in the park with classmates. In the cave, they shut off all of the lights. It was so dark that I couldn't see my own hand in front of my face.
