Fall is in the Air!

WOW!  What a difference a couple of days make in the temperature.  Many of you were probably in shorts over the weekend, but you'd be crazy to do that today!  I must admit, though, this is my FAVORITE time of year--I especially love cold football games!  Nothing quite compares to piling on the layers and bundling up with friends and blankets as you cheer on your favorite team :)  I'm also very excited about fall because I love the colors--to me this time of year displays the handiwork of the Supreme Artist, our father God.  As I look at the vibrant colors and feel the crisp air, I am reminded how awesome God is and that my Father who created all of this did it just for me to enjoy (well, for scientific reasons, too).  I hope during this season you can find some time to enjoy nature--not just a haunted house!  Speaking of haunted houses, I also like fall because who doesn't like Halloween?  I love to take my kids trick-or-treating and to see what costumes everyone comes up with.  I'm really excited this year because, for once, the Boyd munchkins have decided to dress alike as. . . Darth Vader, a Clone Trooper, and Princess Leia--no, I had nothing to do with their choices, but I am thrilled!  The Force will definitely be with us!

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN:  Think about your favorite Halloween costume of all time.  What did you dress as?  Why was it so cool?  Post your comment in at least 3 GOOD, THOUGHTFUL sentences no later than Thursday, October 27, to receive extra credit.

  1. My favorite Halloween costume of all time was Freshman year when I dressed up as a witch. I wore a long black and purple flowing dress(Yes, I tripped up the stairs a few times) with a black hair ribbon and dark makeup. I think the costume was cool because I sort of doubled as Morticia from the Adams Family. It was an amazing Halloween!

  2. When I was 3 or 4, I was a ladybug for Halloween! It was a very different Halloween than what I am used to now because it was stormy that year! We were at my parents' friends' house, and because we couldn't go outside, they all went in different rooms of their house. I walked around and knocked on different doors, and I received candy each time. It was a memorable Halloween!

  3. My most memorable Halloween costume I wore was Pocahontas in 2001. I remember feeling so grown up and independent because I got to walk all the way to my next door neighbors Halloween party WITHOUT my mom. It was a pretty big deal and I was extremely proud of myself. Anyway, there were approximately twenty other kids at this Halloween party and we were all waiting in anticipation for the judging results from the costume contest. I had some pretty stiff competition between Jessie from Toy Story and some flapper girl who was wearing way too much make up (come on now, we were seven years old). But in the end, Pocahontas prevailed and won the costume contest along with a huge bag of M&Ms all to myself. By the end of this Halloween, I had an award winning costume, more candy than I knew what to do with, and a moderate stomach ache. Nevertheless, it was a fabulous night.

  4. My most favorite costuume was a skeleton. I was actually a skeleton for two years becasue I had a big cleaver that I carried around with it. My mom painted my face but not too scary so I did not scare younger kids. My dog Max always dressed as Frakenstein and went through the neighborhood with me so we made a great team every year. I never really ate much of the candy becasue I am not a big candy eater but it sure was fun to collect it.

  5. My favorite costume ever was when Nancy and I were a two-headed monster. This brilliant idea stemmed from both of us putting on my dad's coat at the same time for fun one day. My mom painted both of our faces so we would look like monsters. Unfortunately, when we went to people's houses for trick-or-treating, they thought we were siamese twins. We had to explain it to several people, but they all liked it. We eventually took off our dad's jacket and broke apart because it was hard to walk, but I still told everyone that we were a two-headed monster. That was an amazing costume!

  7. My favorite costume was an autograph book in seventh grade with my friend Erin. We wore big white shirts and painted one of the backs black and the other said Autograph Book. We would stand face to face and open like a book and have whoever wanted to write on the front of us. It was so much fun and we won first place in out costume contest at our school.

  8. I never really have dressed up for halloween, well I did but I was little and do nor really remember it. My family and I live out in the country I'd guess you would say so I never really had a neighborhood to go trick-or-treating in. Then when I got older I would always go to parties where I would never really dress up for them. I love halloween but I guess I never really found the excitment in dressing up.

  9. When I was eight years old, my favorite costume was Spiderman. I remember I used a lot of silly string because that was my "web" I would shoot at people. I remember getting a lot of candy that year also. I believe that was the most candy I had ever received. That was the greatest halloween I ever had.

  10. Being huge movie freaks, four of my church friends and myself decided to dress up as the cast from the epic movie Ghostbusters last year. As the tallest member of the crew, I represented the huge white marshmellow monster known as the "stay puft marshmellow man". Filled to the brim with pillow stuffing in my white painter suit, I thoroughly enjoyed halloween evening as I stutted around as a comfortable behemoth.

  11. Out of all seventeen Halloweens I've experienced, my favorite costume I sported was that of a sumo wrestler. I, along with two of my other overweight, thong-bearing comrades (Aaron Burnett and Jacob Dyer), wore this outrageous getup freshmen year. The reason behind this comical trio was Goodpasture's annual food drive; instead of collecting candy like all the normal kids in America, we went door to door collecting canned goods for the food drive! So not only did we help the less fortunate, we got to dress like corpulent people in skimpy clothing and make complete fools of ourselves! Obviously, that was my favorite Halloween and Halloween costume of all time!

  12. I would have to say that my favorite Halloween costume would have to be the time I dressed up as a vampire. I was about eight or nine when it happened and I remember the look very clearly. I painted my face white and used those horrible tasting blood capsules for the finishing touch. Needless to say, it was the oddest, scariest, and best costume that I've had to date!

  13. I believe my favorite halloween costume was the grim reaper. This particular costume was cool to me because it had a squeezable heart that pumped "blood" through my skeleton mask. At every house that i went to, the people were amazed at my costume. I will always remember this halloween!

  16. Unfortuneately, I do not have a favorite costume, but I do have a favorite Halloween. Even though wes felt it unnecessary to mention mr, I also went canning on Halloween freshman year. No, I wasn't a sumo wrestler, but I was a bunny rabbit with a cute little puffy cottontail that ended up ripping a hole in my sweats. Anyways, I felt really good after this Halloween because I had a lot of fun with friends and I was able to help others!

  17. The greatest Halloween costume I ever had was a ninja turtle costume. I was 6 when I dressed up as one.I had so much fun being one because they were my favorite heros when I was little. It was so cool getting to act like one of them. I also loved going out and getting candy from all the houses. It was truly a great Halloween!

  18. I have had a lot of great halloweens! One of my favorite years was when i had a fat sumo costume on and my brother had a fat ballerina costume. That year was the best because we went trick or treating with friends. I hope this halloween is better than that year's!

  19. One of my favorite Halloween costumes that I wore was Jason. I looked just like Jason and had a mask,a machete, and even fake blood. I looked as if I had just stepped out of the movie screen.

  20. My favorite costume was when i dressed as blade, the daywalker/vampire hunter. I loved this since it was different from most costumes. This costume was different since it was more gothic than the usual costume, and just looked awesome. It was a costume i'll always remember.
