Quote for the Week:

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go....

SEUSSICAL!

By now, you all should know that tonight and tomorrow night the theater department will be presenting Seussical the Musical.  I know several of you have put in countless hours to make this show incredible.  I want to be on record as saying this is one of the BEST shows I have ever witnessed, and I've been around awhile!  Since Mallory is a Who, I have been able to witness several of the rehearsals this week including the preview on Wednesday.  I have been AMAZED by the talent and perseverance of our students!  Miss Toliver and I have laughed and cheered so much!  Brandon Smith is the ultimate Cat in the Hat, and who knew Phil Trent had such a wonderful voice, the perfect Horton?  My jaw really dropped when I heard Katie Ankenbauer as the kangaroo--holy cow what a voice!  I had a repeat jaw drop when I saw the fabulous Sydney Mann as the Amazing Mazie!  Lauren Sutherland is a perfect Gertrude, too!  From the band to the wonderful critters to the stage crew, you ALL are wonderful!  However, my favorite part is, of course, the Whoville citizens since my own little Who is part of that scene!  What a way to celebrate the talent of Goodpasture and recognize the classic Dr. Seuss!

As I've watched all of the performances this week and reflected on my favorites, I found myself thinking about all of the Dr. Seuss books my children and I have read.  What fun stuff that talented man was able to produce!  I think my favorite Dr. Seuss book is Oh, the Places You'll Go!  I've read it numerous times over the years and love the ideas he presents as he reminds us that life is not always going to be a cake walk, but it certainly will be interesting and rewarding.

Now, it's your turn! I want to hear your thoughts.  Type a 4-6 sentence, well-written response to BOTH parts of the following question.  Be sure you post your comment no later than Thursday, March 7, by 3:00 pm.  Here is your 2-part question:

After watching Seussical, what was your favorite part of the show and why?  Be specific!  Also, what was/is your favorite Dr. Seuss book and why?

  1. The play as a whole was so fantastic to watch; however, my absolute favorite number was Amazing Mazie! It was so funny to see sweet Sydney Mann be sassy and even sneaky. As a child my favorite Dr. Seuss book was, Green Eggs and Ham. My fond memories of this book stem from Dr. Seus day in elementary school, when my teacher cooked us green eggs with food colouring. I went home that day with an idea in my head, " Well if I can add green food colouring and get green eggs, I can add all the colors and get rainbow eggs." This unfortunate idea lead to an even more unfortunate dinner, but it did not tarnish my memories of this delightful book.

  2. From the very first scene to the curtain call, Seussical blew me away. I was dumbfounded by all the talent that our school has! Because the play was so incredible, it's really hard for me to pick one favorite part. However, if I had to choose (and in this case, I do), I would pick the closing number when everything was resolved and all the characters lived happily ever after. Because of the great acting, each character made me cheer for them to overcome their difficulties and realize how lucky they truly are.

Growing up, Dr, Seuss was always an integral part of my childhood. I'm almost positive that I read every single book the brilliant man ever wrote. Out of all the beautiful and imaginative stories, however, Oh, The Places You'll Go always stood out to me the most. As a tiny child who had such dreams for what my life could be, that book always provided reassurance that I could make those far-reaching dreams come true. And as a young adult now who sometimes forgets those wild aspirations, the book reminds me of my childhood and what I must still strive to chase every day.

  3. Seussical is one of my favorite plays that Goodpasture has performed. From the bright costumes to the sassy characters, this play takes you to a different world and makes you feel like you are actually in one of Dr. Seuss' books! My favorite scene is All for you! Not only did Lauren do AMAZING on her solo, I also enjoyed dancing backstage with Sydney as we mimicked Lauren's moves! I'm so glad to have been apart of this wonderful show even though I was only backstage crew & hair/makeup. I have made countless memories with everyone who was apart of the show and even created new friendships that i will cherish for a long time!

When I was a little girl, I adored Dr. Seuss and his wonderful imagination. He taught me to believe in myself and not to be afraid to be silly. My favorite story of his is probably The Cat in the Hat. The book's colorful illustrations, the Cat's exuberant spirit and the rhyming text, never failed to get my imagination racing and put me in a good mood!

  4. My favorite part of the play was Cat in the Hat and every thing about him. When reading the book as a child, I always knew he was very mysterious and funny, but when I saw Brandon in action, I knew Mrs. Thames had picked the right person for the role. Throughout the entire play, he was the one person I always looked forward to most of coming out, not to mention his comical relief. I was so glad to see Brandon take on the role of an a mischievous cat and really get into the role.

Growing up, I loved Dr. Seuss books, but I would have to say The Foot Book was my favorite. Of all the Seuss books I owned, that one definitely got read the most. I remember reading that book many nights before I went to bed and thinking of the various types of feet. I always wished I would have fuzzy, purple feel like the characters in the book. Seeing the colorful feel and reading the rhyming words always made me feel better, especially after long days at school!

  5. My favorite part of the play is when Phil sang,"a person is a person no matter how small." While he was singing I was totally mesmorized in his entire performance. It was like nothing existed around me! I knew Phil could sing, but he really out did himself with that song. I was sitting with Abby and some other people, and I talked about it for a good five minutes after the performance was over.

My favorite Dr.Seuss book is Green Eggs and Ham. I like all of Dr.Seuss's book because they rhyme. I like Green Eggs and Ham in particular because when I was a kid, our teacher read that book to us, and when she finshed she made us green eggs and ham. I thought that was the coolest thing.

  6. My favorite part of Seussical was when Gunter and Rebecca were singing in the first part of the play. Honestly, i didn't think Gunter could sing, but he proved me wrong! Rebecca has an outstanding voice, and I was very impressedwith her. Another thing that i enjoyed was during the song, little kids ran out singing and smiling and that caught my attention and made me happy.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book would have to be Green Eggs and Ham. First off, I always enjoyed looking at the pictures in his books, and this particular book had some very interesting pictures. Another reason why I like it is because after we read it our lunch the next day would be green eggs and ham. Honestly, as a kid, i never thought you could actually make green eggs! Turns out you can and it's a great book for kids.

  7. My favorite part of the play was Mayzie LaBird. Sydney did such a fantastic job playing this dynamic character. The part where she danced with Ricky was hilarious, and I enjoyed being on stage with her! Also, the part where she grabs the Cat by the collar was particularly funny.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is the Cat in the Hat. I love the mischievousness and mysterious character of the Cat. I also enjoyed the fact that I was blessed to play this character in the play. It gave me a chance to be someone I had never been before!

  8. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT PHIL COULD SING SO BEAUTIFULLY. HE ABSOLUTLY BLEW ME AWAY !! MY FAVORITE BOOK WOULD HAVE TO BE " HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS." THIS BOOK ILLUSTRAITED THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS IN SUCH A GREAT WAY. ALSO I LOVED IN THE MOVIE THE GRINCHES HEART TURNED OVER TIME, IT MADE ME HAPPY :)!!!

  9. My favorite part during the play was the end when Horton and Gertrude McFuzz finally got together. The baby elephant, bird was just so adorable!

The Lorax has to be my favorite Dr.Suess book. It taught me that a single action done out of selfishness has the power to impact not just yourself doesn't but, everyone who cares about me.

  10. I LOVED this play, and I still find myself making Seussical references in my daily conversations. I loved the pure innocence of the story, bringing us all back to our childlike imagination. My favorite part of the play was the Finale of Act 1 when they sing about how lucky we are. It is easy to think about all the things going wrong in our lives, but we need to remember that things could always be worse. We just need to tell ourselves how lucky we really are!
My favorite Dr. Seuss book as a child was probably The Cat in the Hat. I loved the adventure and the way I could let my mind go wild, imagining all the things that could happen. I love the way that Dr. Seuss inspires readers to be themselves, having the ability to think any think they want, if only they are willing to try.

  11. I would like to congratulate all who were involved in the play on a job well done. I know everyone worked very hard to put the production together. My favorite part of the show was the opening scene when the curtains were drawn back and the set was revealed in all of its glory. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "The Sneetches" because it conveys a good message about equality that can still be applied to society today.

  13. As a part of the show, I got to see everything really come together in the last few days at the final rehearsals. It's always a fun experience working with Mrs. Thames and the rest of the crew and cast. My favorite part wasn't necessarily a specific point in the show but the conglomeration of colors, voices, and other miscellaneous sounds. It was a perfect representation of Dr. Seuss's far out and creative mind. By far, my favorite Seuss book is "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?" My parents used to read it to me all the time--it reminds me of when I was a small child.
