Food Drive Awesomeness!

So, today was the end of a different but truly awesome week of food drive.  I know some of you have had opinions about the changes this year, but I want to make it clear that I have LOVED the service days and hanging out with the incredible Goodpasture students.  I also LOVE the way we have truly worked as a school to serve our community.  I LOVE the fact that the food drive was not about our rewards this year.  And I really LOVED the wonderful pep rally today.  Did you see the excitement in the elementary students?  Did you see that our precious kindergarten students had nearly $2,000 worth of food?  Did you see that those guys LOVED being in that gym and celebrating?  Did you see our teachers who were willing to be a bit awesomely foolish as we illustrated the read 12 Days of Christmas?  I know that all of you are jealous of my moves, ha-ha!  If I haven't said it lately, I want my students to know that I cannot think of anywhere else I'd rather be than Goodpasture.  Even after 20 years of teaching, I am so thankful to get to work at this school.  I know that God will continue to bless us as we serve Him by reaching out to others.

Sound off time!!!  If you want some extra credit, post your comment to the following question no later than Friday, December 14, by 3:00 pm.  Be sure you follow directions:)

What has been your favorite part of food drive this year?  Think about all of the activities we've done over the past two weeks.  Type a 4-5 sentence, well-written response with some commentary (why is that event your favorite) and post it on time.

  1. Despite the changes in the food drive process this year, I had a lot of good times with friends. It was refreshing to be able to spend some quality time with the people that enjoy being with the most. My favorite activity out of all would have to be bagging different neighborhoods. We got to meet some really nice people along the way.

  2. Although there was no extra credit this year, I truly enjoyed the services day very much! With that being said, my favorite part of food drive was bagging. Last year they explained what is was, but I never acted upon it. With service days being built in, I got to experience bagging, and I loved it. I loved knowing I was serving God and helping others who aren't as fortunate, along with spending time with my peers and getting to know them better. If I had the chance again, I would definitely tell anyone to take the opportunity to go bagging with a group of friends and go beyond the average student. It's a wonderful way to serve others and have fun at the same time! :)

  3. I took away so many memories and experirEnces from food drive this year. I loved hanging out with my friends and serving at the same time. Perhaps my favorite part of food drive was on Friday when we delivered gifts and food to our family. It was truly a blessing to see the joy on their faces and to see that all of our work throughouts the past two weeks had paid off.

  4. Though I was slightly nervous about the changes made to food drive this year, I really was pleased with how everything turned out. Out of all the great memories I made from food drive this year, my favorite was bagging Holly Tree. I remember discussing my clumsiness and tripping over whatever was in the ground. I remember seeing everyone go the wrong way when we were all trying to go to Sonic and laughing until I cried. It was just wonderful to be able to make so many memories with my classmates this year, and I'm blessed that I was able to be a part of something so magical.

  5. Although I was a little weary of this year's food drive changes, overall I had a very good time. During this week our groups adventures lead us to meet a plethora of nice people. There was a very nice older man, who cleared out his pantry to give to us. Another pure stranger left boxes and crates full of food on his doorstep. This experience helped me bond with people in my grade that I normally wouldn't have the opportunity to bond with. We learned from our many experiences in getting lost how to navigate around the greater Hendersonville and Brentwood areas. Although this year was a major learning experience, it went to help a great many people and brought our grade much closer together.

  6. Although the way we did Food Drive changed a lot this year, it was still enjoyable. I think my favorite part about Food Drive this year was the canning activities( I thoroughly enjoyed the half days as well). I got to bond with people in my grade I never get a chance to talk to, got chased by pitbulls, and I also got an extreme workout walking up and down the hills in Hendersonville . I enjoyed Food Drive this year even though there was no extra credit, because in the end, we got to help people who really needed the food.

  7. The change in food drive was fun. I enjoyed going out to different neighborhoods and bagging. I would have never bagged a neighborhood if Goodpasture did not take time out of the day to do so. It was a great experience, and I loved the bonds that were formed. I wish they would have kept the extra credit part though, because my grades would have loved that. I believe we still did an impressive job, as a school. We still helped a lot of people.

  8. When I first heard the news that extra credit was not going to be offered and we were going to be given half days of service, I thought that Food Drive would be a dud. I thought that a lot of people wouldn't take it seriously and use the half days as an excuse to go home early. After the first day of bagging, my perspective of the upcoming week was changed. The participation and effort that was put forth by my group was incredible and very fun at the same time! Bagging quickly became my favorite part of food drive because of the great memories that were made, getting to interact with our community, and give them a chance to help participate in our food drive. Even though our totals were not as significant as they have been in past years, knowing that we raised this money without being offered extra credit makes me extremely proud to be apart of such a wonderful school. :)

  9. My favorite part of Food Drive was probably the first day of bagging. I was in Coach Estep's group with Rhys, Madison, Branndon, JP, Chad, Cheyenne, Katie and Justin. Naturally, this was the group that attracted the cops. We didn't have high expectations, but the day actually turned out to be pretty fun. We messed with Madison relentlessly, got lost, Rhys spit in someone's car, went to Sonic, and we even bagged a little before the cops came.

  10. My favorite part of food drive this year was definitely having half days and having bonding time with some of my friends bagging neighborhoods. We had a ton of funny experiences like Alaina leaning up from the back yelling "WHAT!" for no reason at all. Another person i think i bonded with was Mrs. Boyd because she gave me her phone number and told me to call her whenever i want! I think over all we could have got more cans if we gave out extra credit but we would not have had all the experiences. The experiences we over all worth not getting extra credit during food drive even though i could have used it in english.

  11. The experience of shopping for a family that I have never met and actually enjoying is crazy. I had so much fun with my classmates wrapping and bagging. Bagging is something I never did because I was scared. Also, shopping with eighty dollars and got all that Ayesha and I got was beyond me. I wish I could take it to the family to get that once in a life time experience to see their expressions when they open their gifts. This has made my junior year one to remember. I am so thankful and blessed to able to have the chance of blessing others that didn't know if they were going to have a Christmas.

  12. My favorite part of the food drive was going around and bagging the neighborhoods. This was the first time I have ever done this and I was surprised at how much fun I had. I also liked the half days we had because it gave me a break from the classroom of which I needed. This food drive was really fun and I think we should do it the same way next year.

  13. Although food drive was different this year, I thought it went well. Personally, my favorite part was visiting our families. I loved getting to see the children's faces light up with excitement as we brought in the gifts. It was great knowing we brought happiness to a family that wouldn't have had Christmas otherwise. I also enjoyed meeting some of the church members that came to pick up the food after school Friday. Altogether, I loved this food drive because we had the chance to bring joy and smiles to struggling families.

  14. Although food drive had many changes this year, it was still a blast. The idea to have half days where we can go out into the community and serve was awesome. Just like Mrs. Boyd, I also can't decide one thing that was my favorite so I'm going to list them all. One of my favorite things we did was go bagging. I had only been once in previous years, but this made it so much more fun. Hanging out with friends and getting to know people better all while you serve is the best! Shopping for our family was awesome just like previous years too. Getting to buy Christmas presents for someone less fortunate is the best part. Then taking the presents to the family is really spectacular to be able to see the kids's faces light up when they see all the presents there. It's a blessing to go to a school that cares this much about others so that we can do this for the less fortunate.

  15. My favorite thing is being able to specifically help a particular family that is in need. From shopping for the family to personally giving the family their gifts, calling a family "ours" is above all my favorite. When shopping for Chaya this year I felt like I had the little sister I was never able to have. I felt the need to help clothe her and provide her with toys even if some mere change from my own pocket could be spared. I am greatly looking forward to visiting the family this year and seeing the ever-so grateful children's (as well as mom's) eyes light up as we can perform Goodpasture's version of a Christmas miracle.

  16. The last two weeks of Food Drive have been great! My favorite part of it all was having half-days and being able to bag neighborhoods with my friends. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend time with their friends while helpin others? It's a win-win situation! Even though we didn't get extra credit for the cans, it was all worthwhile as we got to spend time with friends. All the times in Rudy's truck when he would slam on the brakes, sending us flying forward to the back of the can were exhilarating! Needless to say, these memories will last a lifetime!

  17. Food drive this year was very interesting, but I really enjoyed it. My favorite parts were being able to have the extra time to be helping people and being able to grow closer to those that I didn't know very well. I'm so thankful for these new friendships, and the memories that will last a lifetime. Even though the food drive wasn't as successful as it has been in past years, we still were able to help those in the community, and that's the best reward of all.

  18. although extra credit was not an option this year, I had more fun than I ever have with food drive. My favorite part of food drive this year was going to all the different neighborhoods and bagging them. This gave everyone time to get out of the same old same old, and go do something that benefits other people and not just ourselves. It wasn't just bagging the neighborhoods that was so fun, it was also hanging out with friends, and bonding with those that maybe your not so close to. -carson gregg-

  19. The two weeks of the food drive were so hectic for me. I had so much going on with homework and therapy for my knee, but I had so much fun working for others. There are so many people that need our help, and any time that we can stop and work is a blessing. I loved having the half days to go bagging with friends. I made some amazing memories that I will have for the rest of my life. When I was wrapping the presents for the Junior family, I realized how blessed I am. Knowing that those children will have a Christmas makes me feel so warm and happy. That is why I love the food drive because we all have the opportunity to change the lives of everyone we come in contact with around the greatest time of year!

  20. My favorite part of food drive was definitely getting out of school to bag neighborhoods. Honestly I was expecting to be bored the whole time while putting bags on mailboxes, but I was wrong. I was genuinely surprised at how much fun I had. It was great going out with friends and doing something to help others while still having fun. I hope we do it again next year.

  21. My food drive experience this year was highlighted by an undeniably wonderful bagging expedition led by my absolutely astounding English teacher. That's right! My dreams in life were finally realized when I was given the opportunity to bag with the magnificent Mrs. Boyd herself. The opportunity to bag with such a veteran left me in a state of quiet exultation. My good feelings only increased when Scott Ellis discovered a bottle of Burnnet's Vodka, a true delicacy. The combination of superior education and forbidden alcohol provided a thrill that I as an emotionally contained Honors kid had never experienced before. Had I not experienced this, food drive would have been another year of monotonous canning, sorting, stacking, and loading. Thank you for the great times Mrs. Boyd.

  22. Even though I am upset with the choice to get rid of extra credit, food drive is still one of the best things this school does. My favorite thing to do during food drive is to load the trucks that come to pick up the food. I enjoy this because I get to see first hand where this food is going to. I get to see all the joy and thankfulnes these people have for all the hard work everybody put in. I also work with my church that gets food from Goodpasture on delivering it to several families, so I see all the way from collecting the food to distributing the food. To see all the joy on their faces makes all the work from the past two weeks totally worthwhile.

  23. Wrapping presents for our family is what I loved the most about food drive this year. Although we weren't given the opportunity to receive extra credit, this year was my favorite concerning food drive. After having been here last year for the extra credit, I was seriously looking forward to getting more points for my hard work. When we were wrapping the presents for the kids in Mrs. Boyd's room, I realized just how much I have. That made me extremely thankful for everything, and I really loved the feeling of giving to the less fortunate.

  24. The best part of food drive for me was definitely getting out of class to go bagging with my friends. This was the best part of food drive for me because whether Carter, Adam, and I were goofing off, playing loud music, or listening to Adam attempt to free style rap in the car while we were out on the road; we were always having a blast. Although, the most memorable event from food drive for me was when Adam attempted to drive off without me and I ran up beside the car and then Adam accidentally jerked the steering wheel to the left, which was the side of the car I was on, and hit me with his car. And even though I got hit by a car, I still had an exceptional time. This is why bagging out with my friends was by far the best part of food drive for me.

  25. My favorite part of this year's food drive was bagging neighborhoods! I enjoyed spending time with friends while helping get food for the food drive. It was a fun experience because I had never gone bagging before. Of course, the best days were the ones spent with Mrs. Boyd as our teacher. I like the new way of doing food drive and I hope we do it again next year!
