If you missed the game against Lipscomb last night, you really did miss out! What a game! I am so proud to be a Cougar! Our volleyball team started off the eventful night with a big win over Macon County (there is no way I'd ever play against Macy--I think she'd kill me!). Then, our football players made some incredible plays, especially the fabulous representatives of the junior class! Our cheerleaders did a phenomenal job keeping the student section active. Our students were rocking the neon (even though I am afraid some of that body paint probably will not wash off for several days--retreat-goers just might have a human nightlight!). Our band members showcased a wonderful half-time performance. God blessed us with weather that was perfect for football! And my Mallory got to be on TV with Carter and several other Goodpasture students! Even though my energy level is very low today, I am THRILLED I came to the games and watched them till the end. I will admit I was a bit nervous during the football game when Lipscomb still had possession with a minute left on the clock. However, our Cougars showed incredible determination and strength as they prevented a devastating touchdown. What a nail-biter! I think last night proved to everyone just how special our school is and how we can make it through difficult situations!
So, I know you all are looking at this blog just to get to the extra credit. I would really hate to disappoint you. . . But I'm not sure I want to give you extra credit. I mean, you really don't need it, do you? You should be making wonderful grades without extra credit, right? Just kidding--here is the topic! Now that I've rambled about how much fun I had last night, I want you to share a memory of the best school event you have attended. You can talk about a specific game or activity, or you can do something more general. Your well-written post MUST be at least 5 GOOD sentences that explain what the event is and why it is so memorable to you, and you MUST post it no later than 3:30 on Friday, September 28. Happy memories!
My favorite school memory is getting to build floats! I love the atmosphere of homecoming as each grade seems to grow closer and glorify God at the same time. The crazy tissue paper and icky glue always make things more interesting! The rushing around and steep competition keeps everyone on their toes. I love getting to make memories with friends, especially being senior year, and uniting together as a class. However, the best part of floats to me is being a part of a group that's glorifying God. The devos are always a great reminder that everything we do is for God.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite school event memory would have to be when I was still attending Hendersonville. The Beech versus Hendersonville game is equivalent to the Lipscomb versus Goodpasture game-it's a big deal! Last year when I went, I decided to stand up in the student section with the war team and scream until I could hardly talk. By going, I got to see all of my friends I'd missed since I had left, as well as, cheering in a loud, crazy atmosphere that was unforgettable. Every year I continue to go to this game whether it's at Hendersonville or Beech because of the excitement everyone gets from playing against the rival of the county. This is one memory I can look back on and share when I have children.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to agree with Kaya. Floats is one of my favorite memories! Besides the fact that teachers tend to let up on homework that week, I love having a fun thing to do after school. It is great bonding time for our class, and we get to show our competitiveness by trying to beat the other grades. I cannot wait for floats this year and am hoping the seniors win!
ReplyDeleteAlthough, there is a plethora of memories I have made in after school events, building homecoming floats is my absolute favorite. During my sophomore year I went almost every afternoon, and I enjoyed every second of it! At night I would leave with raw, colorful hands from the hundreds of balls of tissue paper we had rolled. I can remember leaving the third night thinking, "There is no way we will finish on time." On the last night of floats the whole masterpiece had finally come together. I was with the group that stayed till midnight, and we were all scattering to make those final touches. A few of the teachers were there to make sure everyone left on time, and we were running with seconds to spare! I cannot wait to participate in this fantastic experience this year!
ReplyDeleteWow! Let me start of by saying how extravagant your blog post is Mrs. Boyd!
ReplyDeleteOf my vast school memories, I would have to say my favorite event was during my eighth grade year attending DuPont Tyler Middle School. I was a member of the football team. I had never played football before, and unlike the team we played our first game, I had no facial hair. This beastly team, the Bailey Bulldogs, were Goliaths of the gridiron. They looked like they should have been in the NFL. We ended up getting demolished by them. However Bailey Middle school was penalized for playing with two sixteen-year-old boys, or should I say men. I left the game learning two lessons. Never cheat, but if you do at least get a close shave before you play.
P.S. Have a wonderful evening Mrs. Boyd!
My favorite school memory was floats 2011. I enjoyed floats because I dont attend many school events or participate in many extracurricular activities. Floats gave me a chance to bond with some of the people in my grade I never spoke to at school. Being at floats was fun because I got to work with my classmates to create an amazing float while getting to know some of them better.
ReplyDeleteAlong with most of my grade, floats are definitely the best memory out of the year. Almost everyday, right after school, I'm headed to the float site to began working on the float. It's a great time to fellowship with friends while not having to worry about as much homework. It's also a great oppurtunity to get to know people in your grade better because you end up working on the float with everybody. I can't wait till floats start this year!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite school memory is the trip to Disney World in 2011. The chorus was given the opportunity to fly to Orlando and spend a few days in the parks. The event was part of Disney's annual Christmas celebration. We enjoyed all of what Disney had to offer and made it a worth while trip. It was certainly an experience I will recall for a long time.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories from Goodpasture has been the FCA retreat. This weekend was possibly one of the most fun weekends I have ever spent. The devos were incredible, and everyone sang their hearts out, making the songs that much more meaningful. I was truly touched by all the experiences had there, such as the small group chats and especially the bonfire. I made so many new friends, and I grew so much closer to friends I already had. I absolutely cannot wait for the FCA retreat next year!

My favorite memory of highschool so far has been the Food Drive. While going door to door for hours may not sound very fun, with the right people it's unforgettable. I love seeing all the food stacked up throughout the hallways. By the end of Food Drive the halls are so crowded it's hard to get by. Seeing all of the food and knowing that it is going to help so many people is very encouraging. The Food Drive is the most rewarding event all year.
ReplyDeleteThe setting was 7th period Honors Chemistry, sophomore year. It was the school Halloween dress-up day, and Bivens was wearing a fat suit. Dear sweet Miss Goins had instructed us to bring in pumpkins, which we would carve in class and then explode--we had to get the chemistry aspect in too. Somehow I managed to carve "BOOM" out of the side of my pumpkin. And once everyone had placed the removable pieces back in their pumpkins, we carried our oversized gourds outside for volcano day. It was fun, and it was loud. Everything was hunky-dory until Zane and others started busting their pumpkins on the street. Next thing I knew, Ruthi was yelling at Bivens who was still wearing and refused to stop wearing his fat suit. At this point, everything was chaos, which is probably why I look back at that day with such sweet fondness.
