I must admit I'm pretty bummed we have not had a REAL snow so far this winter, and it's not looking very promising. I'm sad our sled is not going to be zipping down the hill of our yard while a Boyd kid is heading for a frozen creek! Oh well, maybe next year! The good news is no one has had to work on research during a snow day; instead, we've had plenty of school days to stay on track (I'm trying to make the most of things here!). So, you wonderful students in English III are wrapping up your papers while you lovely Dual Enrollment students are about to dive right in. I know this is not anyone's favorite assignment of the year--it's not mine either. Remember, my job is to help you prepare for college, so I MUST teach this concept. If I were like Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, I'd just wave my wand and put the knowledge into your head without the pain of the actual process of doing the research and writing the paper. Alas, "I'm not a princess, and this ain't a fairy tale!"
I know you are actually looking for an extra credit opportunity. Soooo...Let's talk about procrastination and our superb ability to waste time! Tell me what you do when you're supposed to be doing your school work--what gets you distracted? Right now, I'm listening to Adele radio on Pandora and working on this blog while I'm taking a break from grading papers. Type a good response of 3-4 sentences (show me you haven't forgotten how to write) that explains what distracts you and causes you to procrastinate. All comments MUST be posted by Saturday, Feb. 25, at 5:00 p.m. in order to receive credit. Ready...set...procrastinate! Just kidding--procrastination will not be a good idea right now!
Because of the way my schedule works, the time proceeding dinner is reserved for doing homework. After supper, I sit down and crack the books. But not before grabbing some dessert! After thoroughly nourishing my appetite, I resume (start) my homework... After I check my email and retaliate on my multiple games of Words With Friends! Finally, I try to concentrate on my school work after all those arduous activities are completed. However, it's impossible to think clearly knowing there are poor, little Youtube videos in the world that are going unwatched. So, being the sympathetic, caring person that I am, I sacrifice my time to watch a few before finally returning to my homework. Two hours later...
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I really do enjoy going to school. However, the last thing I want to do when I get home is homework. To avoid doing my work right away, I watch tv for about thirty minutes. Then, I get to work! Yeah right. I open my backpack and get my homework out, but I manage to get distracted by the fact that I haven't checked up on other people's lives in awhile! So, I then spend a lot of time creeping on Facebook and Twitter until my parents get home and I am forced to atleast look busy.
ReplyDeleteMy life consist of school and softball during the week and on the weekends i work. The only time to work on my paper is in class and right before i go to sleep or just stay up and pray to not be late to school the next morning. I can't really focus on my paper at school and it's not because of friends. I feel more relaxed at home when i know i can go at my own speed and not try and finish in a class period. Procrastination isn't really my thing because if i don't do it the night it was assigned I'll forget about it.
ReplyDeleteIt is very easy for me to procrastinate. I do not enjoy homework. I spend all day in school and would rather have "me time" after 3pm and on the weekends. Therefore, I wait until the very last minute to get my assignments done. I am sure this doesn't surprise you one bit. At least I am honest.
ReplyDeleteI am the biggest procrastinator cause its so easy form me to get distract. When im suppose to be doing homework im usually on facebook, twitter, or listening to music. I hate homework because I spend all day at school and I don't want to come home and do more work.
ReplyDeleteOver the years, procrastination has become a very common part of my daily life. Although I love school, I have found it harder to get work done days in advance. As I try to do homework at night, I find myself often distracted by the same things time and time again. Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest take my mind away from my work ninety percent of the time. Having so many ways to access these sites has made it very hard to concentrate and get work done, but I'm learning to manage.

The thing that distracts me the most is Facebook. I always promise myself that I'll get on for a few minutes to check my messages and notifications and two hours later, I'm still online. After being at school all day, the last thing I want to do when I get home is a ton of homework. I usually procrastinate until really late at night, then when I finally choose to start I fall asleep over my books.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone knows me well, they know that I'm the biggest procrastinator in the world. As I like to say I put the PRO in procrastination. Haha. Anyways I'm normally on Facebook, listening to music on pandora, or watching tv. Here recently in the past few months, I've learned I have a nitch for cooking. When I need a break or don't want to do my homework, I normally offer to prepare dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteI honestly think that i'm the best procrastinator in Nashville, unfortunately. I usually come home from athletic practices and go to sleep. Once i wake up from these well-needed naps, i eat, then start watching tv. As the time flies, I keep telling myself that i should start on my homework. I never listen and i usually stay up late trying to finish it.
