Emily Dickinson once wrote, "Much madness is divinest sense." I think she was writing about me! There are times when school gets so busy that I feel like a crazy woman, but at least Dickinson thinks that "madness" is somewhat sensible! In the chaos of preparing for the TCAP writing assessment and beginning the research paper, I've been swamped! I also wonder what is going on with this crazy weather--It is NOT supposed to be 60 degrees in January! I mean, where is the snow??? My kids are beginning to think the sled will not make its 2012 debut, and that would just be sad!
Quote for the Week:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go....

Much Madness is Divinest Sense

When Goodpasture closes its doors for a snow day, most students breathe a deep sigh of relief and joy before rolling back over in their sheets and going back to sleep. However, I am not capable of performing this luxurious task. Once my eyes open in the morning, it's almost impossible for me to go back to bed, but even if I could, I wouldn't for the simple reason that when one's asleep, he/she can do anything. To put it simply, sleeping is boring so on snow days, I jump out of bed, and enjoy a full day of leisure. Whether this includes hanging out with friends, playing video games, or watching my favorite television show, I make the most out of my snow days.
ReplyDeleteWhile, sleeping late is my first objective to accomplish, there are other things one can do on a snow day. It is always fun to sit around the house and relax after many long weeks of school and homework. Whenever it snows, I usually go outside and mess around with my brother. Whether we're throwing football and tackling each other in the snow or playing with the dog, snow days are a bunch of fun.
ReplyDeleteWhen we get out for a snow day, I'm always really excited(especially if I had tons of homework due or a test that day)! After enjoying a few extra hours of sleep, I usually use the extra time to study, or get my homework done in advance. If its a legitimate snow day(with tons of snow), I'll go outside with my little niece and play in the snow we'll and make snow men and snow angels. Once, we even made snow cream, it was absolutely delicious!
ReplyDeleteI despise cold weather! I don't like a numb nose or frozen toes! So on snow days, I like to have plenty of hot chocolate to drink and a fire going in the fireplace. I love just being lazy with my family. We watch movie after movie while the snow falls outside, because I honestly believe it's crazy to be out when it is cold like that! I'm not gonna move unless I have to!
ReplyDeleteAfter I receive the news that Goodpasture has indeed closed for a snow day, I immediately begin to plan a day of complete relaxation. First, I start off my day with a piping hot cup of black coffee (strong enough to grown chest hair, according to my mom). Then, I usually spend the rest of the day inside, under the protection of multiple blankets, taking advantage of the short-lived quiet of our house with a good book. It's days like these that keep me (somewhat) sane enough to make it through the snail-paced winter months.
ReplyDeleteWhen Lelan Statom starts talking about snow on News Channel 5, I start listening. I anxiously wait for him to say, “Goodpasture Christian School is closed today.” On snow days I like to sleep in late, watch movies, play video games and enjoy a day at home. My favorite snow days are the ones where we get at least two inches leaving the ground covered and the trees leaning from the weight of the wet snow.
ReplyDeleteOn a snow day, my cousins, who live in my neighborhood, come over! My mom makes a lot of food to snack on, and I stay inside (usually on the couch or in my bed)and relax while the younger cousins play outside! Then, when everyone comes in to defrost, we usually sit around eating and playing games. I love days off of school because I can just sit around and be lazy.
ReplyDeleteSnow days, now, are not quite what they used to be when I was younger. Now, if the rare occurrence of Goodpasture actually giving us a snow day does happen, I can usually be found tucked deeply under my warm blankets and catching up on lost sleep. When I was younger, I would gather up (occasionally force) all my neighborhood friends, and we would have a subdivision-wide snow ball fight! We built igloos (bomb shelters) and enjoyed nailing each other with the tightly compacted white snow. We literally played until the sun went down. Then, everyone found a flashlight, and we played flashlight hide-and-go-seek snow style. To top the whole day off, I would come inside to a warm, luscious glass of hot chocolate waiting for me (thanks to the coolest grandmother in the world).
ReplyDeleteWell when i was little i would always look forward to sledding(which i still look forward to today! Snow days were always the best for me beacause i live on a huge hill and all of my friends would always come over and go sledding!Once all my friends would get there we would always have a blast together but we didnt just go sledding.we would always start off sledding but it would usually turn into a bunch of other things like snowball fights, riding, building thing outta the snow.Snowdays were always a blast for me and they were never boring!
ReplyDeleteWhenever it's a snow day, what I love to do is watch the snow fall, play video games, reading, surfing the web,and talking with friends. Sometimes i go outside and play around in the snow,if there's enough of course. But mainly i stay inside and stay as warm as possible, that way I wont get sick. So that's how i spend my snow days.
ReplyDeleteI really need to know a name here in order to post extra credit!

DeleteWhen school is postponed for snow, I enjoy the cold snuggled in my warm bed. I dream of warm days when the sun is shining and the lake looks like glass. I dream of slicing through the water as if it were melted butter. Unfortunately, the dream ends when I wake up to see white outside. I just throw on some warm clothes and grab the sled instead. At least there is no school!
ReplyDeleteWhen school is cancelled due to snow, i basically turn into a grandma. Not saying grandmas do nothing, I literally do nothing productive all day long. I typically spend the day playing board games and watching game shows with Katherine. I know. It's cute. I feel like the world just needs to stop on a snow day. I love that for just one day (if we are lucky two or three days) I can stay at home and not worry about anything. I can just take a break from school and practices and other things that take up all my time. I love snow days!!
