I know we are all knee-deep in the food drive madness--what an awesome time of year to be part of Goodpasture! My kids have loved bringing in cans every day and sitting on the throne each afternoon. Yesterday, they joined Anna, Kristen, Jason, Conner, Jordan, Callie, and Taylor at KMart to shop for our family--loads of fun! Now, my room looks like a bit of a disaster area and will probably continue to be that way till Friday, but that is okay. I am always amazed at the positive attitudes people exhibit this time of year--how much kinder people can actually be. Honestly, I just love Christmas! I love the lights and the people and the fellowship and, of course, the music! The picture of my kids above is our attempt at Jingle Bell Rock, one of my favorites. As we wrap up the food drive this week and prepare for exams, my prayer for all of you is that you do your best to help as many people as you can--that you remember food drive is not about who wins (not really)--it's about reaching out to others and sharing God's love.

Christmas--the season of hot chocolate, giving, family, and most importantly, Jesus. With Christmas comes nostalgia, and while watching my mother put up the Christmas tree, I am enveloped with a sense of longing for home and family. I am overcome by a precipitant downpour of memories and suddenly, I am standing in my living room in Singapore. It is December of 2003. My mother, sister, and I are sitting on the couch and my father sits on the coffee table, guitar in hand, strumming and singing Mary's Boy Child. This was, and still is, my favorite Christmas song. This simple tune not only relays the story of Jesus's birth, but also brings out this beautiful memory from the recesses of my brain. Although it seldom comes on the radio, I can remember almost every word. As I sing it inside my head, I not only remember my Heavenly father, but my earthly father as well.

I do believe my favorite Christmas song, of the moment, is Winter Wonderland. The lyrics are full of descriptive imagery, which paints a warm and cozy picture, perfect for this time of year. The sleigh bells, glistening snow, and dreams by the fire all remind me of the happiness Christmas brings. Every time I hear this song, I long for a heart-warming cup of hot chocolate by the fire and to see the crisp, sparkling snow fall outside. This song never fails to bring out one's Christmas spirit.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the song "I Want a Hippopotamus for christmas" because it brings back fantastic memories of when I was younger. When I was in elementary, and my mom had to drive my three siblings and me to school, we would play a Christmas cd in December each year. This song was on the cd, and I can remember all of us singing along with it and trying to copy the singer's voice. The other night, on the way to cheerleading practice, this song came on the radio, and Nancy and I found ourselves doing the same thing we did years ago...singing to it in that funny voice. This song is amazing because it always makes me happy no matter what mood I'm in!
ReplyDeleteI love the song "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" because it brings back the memories when I really wanted to lose my front teeth. When I was little, I wanted to lose them, because i wanted to be like the girl in the song. My other favorite Christmas song is "White Christmas." It seems like every time you hear that song, your mind immediately goes to spending the holidays with your family, curled by the fire, and opening gifts.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song is a all time classic, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey. I love this song because of two reasons. One is because about two years ago my pawpaw took me to The Adventure Science museum. They had this Christmas light show and they played this song along with the story of this women who wanted her husband back from the war and it just touched my heart at the end when he came threw the door and surprised her. The second reason is because it is so sweet and i love Mariahs' voice. I belt out singing to that song every time it comes on. Its my absolute favorite Christmas song of all time.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like Christmas music, which sounds strange, but I get tired of it! When the Christmas music starts being played before Thanksgiving, it gets kind of old. However, there are two songs that I can stand hearing. One of them is "I'll Be Home For Christmas." I do prefer the Rascal Flatts version, just because they sound so good when they sing acapella. The other one is "Blue Christmas," but I only like Elvis's version. Those are the only two Christmas songs that I enjoy hearing. Therefore, those two are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite christmas song is jingle bells because i know all the words to it. the other reason why its mym favorite song is because my parents use to sing to me when i was little. Josh Lee and I sing before soccer games in December.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite christmas song is Jingle bells. When I was in Korea, My parents always sing that song in front of me. On christmas day in korea, I used to wake up by listening to Jinglebells. Also Bryson and I sing jingle bells before soccer game to get our spirit on.

My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. This was my great grandmother's favorite Christmas song. When I hear it, I think of her and smile. It is the last song we sing before we leave Christmas Eve church service and it symbolizes the meaning of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm a fan of hard rock, my favorite Christmas band is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but since they have so many amazing songs, it's hard to pick a favorite. Though if I had to choose, I'd have to say their rendition of Carol of the Bells is my favorite Christmas song ever. Whenever I hear that song, it reminds me of their concerts; at their concerts, the vibe given off by the crowd when the band starts to play this song is electric. The energy the crowd emits is unparalleled, and I love every second of it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song would have to be I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas. Everytime I hear it, it always puts me in a great mood and especially, a Christmas mood. It reminds me of when I was younger and wanted a puppy, which I eventually end up getting. :) I definitely will make it a tradition for my kids, one day, to listen to every year like I have.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I normally don't tolerate Christmas music before December 24th, I always manage to make an exception for "Santa Bring my Baby Back to Me" by Elvis. When I hear this song, I am taken back to sleepless Christmas nights, rising at the crack of dawn to make sure Santa didn't forget our house on his long journey, and the anticipation of ripping open presents as soon as my parents crawled out of bed. There is no explanation needed for why I love his voice. After all, he is the King, and his song never fails to fill the weeks leading up to Christmas with nostalgic bliss and pure delight.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not a big fan of Christmas music, I love a song called "The Promise Song" written by my youth choir director at church. The song has a beautiful tune, and its words remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. It tells us of Jesus, God's promise. My youth choir director's band is called Flyfaith, and I strongly encourage you to look up "The Promise Song" on iTunes!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I hear the song "The Christmas Shoes," it bring tears to my eyes. Although Christmas is a joyful time of year, this is still my favorite Christmas song because it reminds me of the true meaning of the holiday season. I feel like I am often guilty in getting caught up in the gifts, lights, and other extravagant features that are aspects of the season. When "The Christmas Shoes" comes on the radio, I am reminded of how important it is to always think of others during this time of year. Although it makes me cry, this song also brings me happiness. It not only reminds me of how blessed I am, but it also allows me to realize how a simple act of kindness can change someone's life forever.

Because of the stressful anticipation of exams, i never experience the Christmas spirit until Christmas eve/day. My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night by the temptations. I like to listen to this song with my friends and family while joking around and enjoying Christmas time together.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song has to be "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" because it reminds me of the true reason for the season. Often times, I get "wrapped up" in the hustle and bustle of the season's commotion, and this song simply reminds me of Christ and everything He means to me. While this song speaks of His humble birth, it also speaks of Christ's everlasting glory. Just the thought of His awesome power allows my heart to rejoice as I sing along with this classic Christmas carol.
ReplyDeleteChristmas time is the best time of year! Everybody seems to be in a better mood due to, giving/receiving of gifts, Christmas break, and of course Christmas music. My favorite Christmas song is "I Celebrate The Day" by Relient K. I like this song because it reminds me of the true meaning of Christmas, Jesus' birth.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite christmas song is christmas eve sarajevo by the trans siberian ochestra. Everytime i hear this song, it reminds me of all the past christmas eves and days i've had. It also makes me feel more at peace and more excited about this christmas.

My favorite Christmas song would have to be jingle bells. It always puts me in the Christmas spirit. Christmas is my favorite time of year cause i feel like everybody is happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat great memories! I have to admit, I love Christmas music--even thought I get a bit tired of 92.9 playing the same songs. Wes, I think I have to agree with you about Trans Siberian Orchestra. My kids LOVE their version of "Carol of the Bells"--nothing compares to my kids jamming to that on the way to school in the morning!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is "How Will Santa Get Here" by King Obstinate. It's a Caribbean song and it talks about how Santa will get to the Caribbean kids to deliver everyone his or her presents. In the song he asks how Santa will get across all the water and he also talks about how we have no reindeer in the Caribbean, so Santa will just have to ride a donkey. I've always liked this song because when I was younger and lived in the Caribbean, we would all wonder how Santa would get to us and question if he really existed. I guess this song really ruined my belief in Santa.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song is the classic 'O holy night'. A man at my church sings this song every year at my church's annual Christmas Eve midnight service. He is the most talented singer I know, and the only person in my opinion who could do the song justice. Everything about the song is powerful: its range, its dynamics, and the message brought to life by the electric vocals of the talented man singing it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song is 'Blue Christmas' by Elvis. I like this song because Elvis sings it and he is a classic. Every time I hear the song, it puts me in the Christmas spirit.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite Christmas Song would have to be "Mary, Did You Know." I love that it is able to incorporate a peaceful sound with such riveting truth. I tend to find many of today's Christmas songs materialistic and annoying. Thank goodness are there are good songs to balance the bad ones out. Another reason I chose that song as my favorite is that my brother and I have started a tradition every Christmas, mostly to annoy my sister's husband, of singing "Mary, Did You Know" loudly and horribly. In fact, my brother-in-law went so far as to say we ruined the song for him. That may seem a bit harsh, but to me and Jon, that's just knowledge of a job well done.

I really love this time of the year. Thats why my favorite Christmas song is "Its The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" because it makes me realize what this year has lead up to, family and friends all close together and celebrating the good life, and reminiscing about the past year and all its joy.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas song is "Carol of the Bells" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I love this song because I can play it on the guitar. It is a really fun song to play. Everytime I play this song it gets me in the Christmas spirit.
ReplyDeleteI have a few favorite Christmas songs. The drummer boy song is definitely one of them. I wish I could say it is for some deep, special meaning, but I actually just really enjoy the rum a tum tums! Also, I love love Justin bieber's mistletoe. Oh, it is absolutely beautiful! (: Lastly, I like the I'm getting nothing for Christmas song because it is just too funny. It also reminds me of the Christmas play my 3rd grade year. I think Christmas time should be a fun time filled with happy, silly memories!

My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night by Destiny's Child because, it reminds me of the time I was in the talent show with my sister and my friends and we danced to this song (:
