Rain, Rain, Go Away

Today, the rain messed up my plans!  I was going to accompany Reece on the fabulous first grade field trip to Kentucky Down Under--he was thrilled to be able to see real kangaroos.  However, the wise and cautious teachers decided to postpone the trip.  So that left me at school a bit unprepared since I left my big bag at home.  Fortunately, I did bring a few papers to grade on the bus ride to Kentucky, so my day wasn't totally wasted!

I think I was disappointed because I just love field trips!  Earlier in the week, I went on the walking tour of Nashville with Brett and the 4th grade.  I loved hearing the stories about Nashville monuments!  We also saw Governor Haslam who took time out before entering the capitol to come speak to our group--pretty cool!  Today was going to be my special time with Reece.  Oh well, we'll try it again another day.

EXTRA CREDIT FLASH:  What has been your favorite field trip ever and why?  Give me the scoop!  Post your thoughtful, well-written comment by Tuesday, April 19, at noon.

  1. I took my favorite field trip ever this year. Near the beginning of the school year, I was notified that a few friends and I were selected to visit the Nashville Airport and learn about the behind-the-scenes work carried out there. When we arrived, our guide led us past security and into a conference room. After being taught the airport's history, we toured the bird's nest–the tower in the midst of the runways; there, we learned how air traffic control works. Next, we ate a delicious lunch of Sbarro's pizza. Lastly, we traveled to the police station and learned about drug/explosive detecting dogs, airplane fires, and security procedures. The trip was filled with exciting times and memorable events, and I will never forget it.

  2. My favortie field trip that I have ever taken was for sure the New York trip! It was a blast, everything about it. First off, it's New York..So that just makes it awesome. The plane ride was fun, bonding with everyone. When we got to NY, I was so excited! Three days wasn't long enough, we should have stayed a week! My favorite part about the trip was the Empire State buliding and the free time we had to shop. The shopping was Insane with all the different stores, and howe they were twice as big. It's a trip I won't ever forget and I would love to go back!

  3. I absolutely adored going to the Capitol and being pages in the House of Representatives with my Leadership II class last year. it was my second time as a page, but this time was so much more fun and exciting since all of my friends were with me. The day started at my dad's office, and he walked us across the street to the capitol. Once we arrived, we all headed down to the huge downstairs where all of the representatives' offices are and met with our district's representative, Mike Turner. He escorted us into the house and introduced us to our intern who would be helping us out. The intern gave us some basic instructions, and then we waited for the lightboard to start lighting up! Once session ended, we went on a capitol tour; then, we went back to my dad's office for pizza. The last event of the day was a "short" capitol grounds tour led by old Mr. Hayes. That trip was most definitely my favorite, and I will never forget all the fun we had together.

  4. My favorite field trip was in the eighth grade when me and my school flew to South America to go to Santiago,Chile. It was my favorite because we stayed for a whole week to build a church for the poor and for the ones who didn't have a church home. The reason it's my favorite because instead of just having a good time there I had a good time helping others and doing something productive. -Jarren Moore

  5. My favorite field trip was in first grade when our class went to Kentucky Down Under. While the field trip itself was a blast; the trip alone was not what made it my favorite. Both of my parents work fairly rigid work schedules and were never able to accompany me on our class adventures. However, my grandmother, Granny, was able to get off of work on this special occasion. I was so excited to have her come with me! We were supposed to bring sack lunches with on that day, and she packed an enormous bag of all my favorites. Grapes, cheese bread, sandwiches, and cookies, I it was a meal fit for a king.
