With Christmas being just around the corner, I am just about as excited as my children! I LOVE this holiday. I love the lights, the trees, the red shirts, the gift wrap, even the shopping. Most of all, I love the time I get to spend with my family. When I think of Christmas, I always think of two things that are my fondest memories: my grandmother (who does Christmas BIG) and my family tradition of sharing one room with my siblings on Christmas Eve. Let me explain...My grandmother probably loves Christmas more than anyone. She decorates everything--seriously! It's like walking into a little winter wonderland of Santas and nutcrackers. As a child, we knew Santa came to her house, too, and we could hardly wait to get to her house to see the tons of presents she had stacked around her tree. To this day, my sister, cousins, and I fight to see who gets the spot on the couch in the Christmas tree room (years ago, we all fit--but we're a bit bigger now). Being at Grandmother's for breakfast will always be one of my favorite memories. I also will never forget a tradition (one I hope my kids will eventually grow into). On Christmas Eve, my siblings and I would put on our matching Christmas pj's--that my wonderful grandmother had given us--and would all 4 pile into one room to sleep. My poor brother always had to sleep in the floor! But we would laugh and giggle half the night--till Mom or Daddy came in for about the 100th time reminding us Santa would not visit if we were awake. Then, we'd all wake up around 5:00 (if we even slept that late), send my brother to see if there was any loot under the tree, then run wake up Mom and Daddy. However, we'd always have to wait to open presents: my parents' rule was they got coffee first--the perfect example of parental torture! It was always the greatest morning! I know God has blessed us all with wonderful Christmas memories and will continue to do so--even when our families drive us nuts!
Quote for the Week:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go....

I love Christmas probably more than any other holiday but then again who doesn't? Christmas has a special feeling the entire month leading up to the long anticipated day. My favorite Christmas memory has to be when I got a four-wheeler for Christmas. It was the first time I had ever spent Christmas morning at my grandparent's house and I wasn't exactly sure why my parents made my brother and I stay there instead of going home. After my brother, Keith, and I had gone through all of the presents that our parents and Santa had given us our parents asked both of us to go upstairs. Grudgingly, I took one last look at all the presents that I had received and ran upstairs to hurry up and get whatever my parents wanted over with. Then I saw it, there was a huge bow wrapped on the handle bars and plastic in the seat where it had never been used before. I looked at my parents in complete shock. I wasn't expecting that kind of present at all and didn't know if it was really mine. After the thousand thank yous and hugs, I went out to ride it. At first, I was really scared and uncoordinated with how fast I accelerated but by the time Christmas dinner had rolled around I had become, in my mind, a pro. That Christmas was not only the best because I got a four- wheeler but because I got to spend it with my entire family rather than just my parents and brother. Christmas is a great time to enjoy our family and friends and to remember Jesus being born in order to save us from our sins.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is BY FAR my favorite holiday. I usually start watching Christmas movies November 1st. My favorite Christmas was when I got my puppy. It was 2 years ago. He was the CUTEST little thing. His name was Buddy. We played with him the entire day. He made Christmas that year a complete blast (even though it usually is). I miss him very much. He made that Christmas the best one I have ever had.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas memory occured when I was very young. I believe I was about seven years old, and it was my dad who made this Christmas special. My parents are undoubtedly the best parents I could ever ask for. They have always taught me the true joy that can be found in helping someone in need. On this particular Christmas, it seemed especially hectic; we had definitely gotten caught up in the commercial side of the holidays. On Christmas Eve, I anxiously awaited my dad's arrival home so we could visit my wonderful grandparents and that side of the family. My dad walked through the door, and I quickly ran to greet him. As he walked through the door, I noticed that he was not alone. My dad worked with a man who didn't have any family to share Christmas with, so my sweet and loving father decided to invite him to spend Christmas with us. Everyone had a lot of fun, and I could see that man's face light up when our family welcomed him into our home. I will never forget my dad's generosity that Christmas. - Sara Luckett
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas memory occured a few years ago. In November of that year my puppy, Maggie, passed away. I loved her so much and I was really upset she was gone for Christmas. On Christmas morning, when my family was opening up their stockings, we noticed an extra stocking hanging next to mine. Inside the stocking there were a lot of presents for a little puppy. I started crying because I missed Maggie so much and refused to go open the other presents. My sister was very annoyed with the delay. My mom started trying to calm me down and make me go in the other room to see what was under the tree. As soon as she opened the door a tiny little puppy ran out with a little santa outfit and hat on. I was so excited to see my new puppy! We named her Kaylee and she is a sweet, little maltipoo. She was so tiny we could hold her in one hand! I still have Kaylee and love her very much. That was my favorite Christmas memory ever!
ReplyDeleteChristmas is my favorite time of year. I love it so much because all around the world, people are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteThere is one Christmas that I will never forget. It was many years ago. We had just moved to Singapore, and were trying to settle into our new home. Before we knew it, Christmas had flown around the corner and knocked us off our feet. We were too busy settling in to notice. We did not have a Christmas tree! Disappointed, my sister and I hung our heads, and complained about the lack of Christmas spirit in the house. However, my quick-thinking mother was not about to let her children go tree-less this Christmas. She ran to the store and bought a huge sheet of Vanguard paper. When she returned, she was greeted by skeptical looks from all of us. Ignoring our sarcastic remarks, she whipped out the paint and markers, and spread them out on the paper. Slowly, we were beginning to see what she wanted us to do. We smiled, and together as a family, the four of us drew and painted the most beautiful Christmas tree I had ever seen. We taped it to the wall, and piled the presents underneath. One could hardly tell the difference from a far.
That year, Christmas at the Ng family's home was the sweetest ever. It was definitely a Christmas to remember. -- Janice Ng
One of my favorite Christmas memories is with my all of my cousins. Every Christmas Eve my WHOLE family gathers at my grandmother's house and the kids are always corralled to the down stairs room. When I was little this consisted of me and my four very rowdy, boy cousins. They are all considerably older than me, the closest being eight years older than me. Due to this they always had "fun" with me. They would get me to do things and tell me if I didn't they would call Santa to tell him not to come to my house. Of course I always listened! Even to the point I was talked into sitting on my cousin’s feet as he catapulted me through the air and ended with me smacking into a wall. Some people might question why getting picked on is such a fond memory, but it is a time we spent together that we don't get anymore. As they have grown older, gone off to college, and started families I have started to appreciate those times a lot more.
ReplyDeleteWinter is by far my favorite season;and with it comes my favorite holiday Christmas. My favorite Christmas memory is one from last year. Me and my uncle wanted to do something for my mom that she could use, so we decided to renovate her kitchen. We blocked off the entrance and worked on it all week--a week filled with many trips to Lowes. We painted the walls and cabinets and got new knobs for everything. We also installed an extra counter for more useful space. We worked late Christmas Eve to make put the finishing touches on everything. When mom awoke in the morning, she was speechless. Just the look on her face made all our hard work worth while. That was definitely the most gratifying Christmas memory I have.
